The Path to Sustainable Future
Since the introduction of electric vehicles (EVs) in South Korea in 2013, their adoption has skyrocketed. By 2022, there were 349,395 registered EVs in the country, equating to one EV per 2.03 people (Chosun Ilbo, October 28, 2022). While EVs are often seen as environmentally friendly, this isn't entirely accurate. Although their operation is eco-friendly, the consumables, particularly the batteries, pose significant environmental challenges once they reach the end of their life.
Better for Drivers, Better for the Planet
As the world progresses toward a greener and more sustainable future, the surge in electric vehicles (EVs) has been extraordinary. EV batteries play a crucial role in the significant shift toward achieving carbon neutrality in the transportation and power sectors. However, this transition presents a significant challenge: the responsible management of retired lithium-ion batteries.

What We Can Provide
Social Value Creation:
Many low-income households struggle with electricity usage, especially those with severe disabilities who rely on electric wheelchairs. Providing affordable battery chargers will ease their burden.
Environmental Benefits:
Recycling batteries prevents environmental pollution from heavy metals and conserves rare resources. A study suggests that recycling a single battery can save about 1 kg of resources.
Economic Gains:
Reusing batteries allows for the recovery of valuable materials like gold, silver, and copper, potentially saving millions of dollars annually. The global battery market, estimated at $120 billion in 2020, is expected to grow significantly, indicating substantial economic opportunities in battery recycling.

What we Propose:
We propose using recycled EV batteries to develop chargers for low-income households, specifically for:

- Electric Wheelchairs: In 2019, there were 100,000 individuals using electric mobility aids, most of whom are low-income, indicating significant demand for such chargers.

- Small Appliances for Heating/Cooling: Given the production and need for electric wheelchairs and similar devices, a considerable market exists.
